i know it's been pretty much forever since i posted, so i'm starting back with a boring old "what i'm listening to right now" kind of entry. here it is!
she & him is the name of talented duo m. ward and zooey deschanel. their cute olden-times sounding alt-country and pop tunes are just the right amount of melancholy and twang for me.
vampire weekend. i am ashamed to say that before their snl performance a while back i had never heard of these fine fellows. sure they're a little preppy, a little pop-ish, but i like how they blend that with really west-african pop sounds. it sounds so good together! these songs get stuck in my head and i really don't mind.
bonnie "prince" billy (aka will oldham). he was on my list to check into more closely for such a long time that i never really gave his music a good listen, until i checked out www.pandora.com to see if they could hook me up with something new and different. my nephew told me about pandora: it's a kind of internet radio that picks songs to play for you based on what bands you like and select. in the way of introducing new stuff, it was pretty decent, but very worthwhile because the one of the first tunes it played was a billy tune that i really dug. he's mellow, melodic, maybe a little sad. beautiful.

Hey, Vampire Weekend was here last night, I almost went, but the moving expenses won out, now I am sad I missed it. I always do that, try to save money, then live with a lot of regret!
But, any group that can sing about a Mansard Roof is a group I like. I've been listening to them a lot too.
I didn't know that the actress zooey was also a singer....girl, we need to swap music...want to send me some burned CDs?
Where do you get all your music from?
AND!!!!!
I am so excited to see a blog from you! I 've missed them!!!
can it be true? a post from the twin blog? Yeah!! I am so glad to hear from you. I will have to give that pandora thing a try.
d'arcy, i'd love to send you some burned cds. i love making cd's for people, it's my thing! i get my music from itunes mostly. but also emusic, insound.com does free mp3 downloads that are sometimes quite good, and i look for reviews on pitchfork. i used to subscribe to paste and i'm thinking about doing it again, it's such a good place to find out about little-known and amazing bands, movies, they even review books. anyway, that's where i heard about sufjan way before he ever got the recognition he has now, also feist like 2 years before she got big, i could go on and on. also they have a free cd with every issue, full of samples that are usually decent and sometimes amazing.
so yea.
natalee,
i know, right?
do check out pandora. it's pretty cool.
more posts to follow.
i promise.
ok, it might take another few months....just kidding.
I love Vampire Weekend Jo. Thanks for introducing me to them. Now when I listen to them I feel so trendy and cool. I put a link to your blog on my blog. I hope that is alright with you. I am excited for the summer and I hope that I can come over to your house and hang out with you and your fam sometime.
Love,
Sarah
