carnival

there was a tiny little street carnival in town just for today and tomorrow. we took the kids and they had a great time...for a little while. but we had fun. we thought about the people who worked the rides and booths and if they like their jobs and their lifestyle, traveling around from town to town...i think it might be fun for a while. we might go back tonight and get some night shots- the rides look so pretty when they're all lit up! for more photos of our carnival trip, go here

*post title from natalie merchant's song "carnival" from "tigerlily" album

I love the first and last shots! Very abstract. One more with the star shape theme and you've got yourself an awesome series for framing.

Have you read Water for Elephants? I'm in the middle of it right now. It gets into the nitty gritty of the old traveling circuses. Carnies... kinda scary...

i haven't read it yet, but i've heard it's good. thanks for liking the shots!
i know what you mean about the traveling circus/carnival thing. there's something mysterious, strange, and sometimes kind of macabre about them, right?

I read it last month! I loved the difference between the old man as narrator and his experiences on the circus.

It made me kind of sad to see how all those people who were different and not accepted gave into letting people stare at them for money.

I also thought Rosi was amazing...elephants are smart!

And that guy, with his twin coming out of his chest, there is a picture of him in the book! Oh my gosh, i couldn't stop staring, I was just as bad as everyone else at the time!
